Best Configuration and Current Status

The top of the Database Overview displays the best configuration OtterTune has seen so far and the latest performance and status information for the database.
The database's best configuration is the configuration with the largest improvement of target objective value over the database's baseline (first) configuration. The Best Configuration panel on the left displays the following information:
Target Objective
The measured target objective for the database's best configuration. See Target Objective for more details.
Improvement
The percentage improvement of target objective value of the best configuration over the baseline (first) configuration.
Configuration
The name and status of the best configuration.
OtterTune is not able to determine your database's best configuration in some cases. See below for more details.
Best configuration is pending
Your database's best configuration will be pending until OtterTune has tried 8 configurations. This is because OtterTune explores the configuration space for the first configurations and it's likely that after 8 configurations we'll have seen some improvement over the baseline. Note that the best configuration will remain pending if your database is in monitoring mode. Please use the Tuning Options panel to enable optimizing mode.
Best configuration is not available
OtterTune can calculate the best configuration only if your settings meet all of the following criteria:
  1. 1.
The tuning interval is at least 24 hours
  2. 2.
The baseline (first) configuration has at least 24 hours of target objective data
  3. 3.
The target objective is not throughput
(1) and (2) are in place because most of our customers have diurnal workload patterns and not capturing an entire cycle can lead to inaccurate performance estimates for configurations. (3) is in place because throughput changes mainly reflect workload changes instead of performance changes when the system is not saturated. To enable the best configuration feature, you can increase the tuning interval to at least 24 hours and select a target objective that is not throughput using the Tuning Options panel. If your first configuration is already set (configuration status is inactive) and does not meet criteria (2), please reach out to Support to re-establish the baseline.
The Current Status panel on the right displays the following information:
Target Objective
The measured target objective for the database's current (active) configuration. See Target Objective for more details.
Status
The current tuning status of the database.
